The Team

The Committee of St Barnabas Preparatory School began work in 2021 and was formed to support the founder, Irene Fyfield, to complete the legacy of her late father Barnabas Simiyu. The Committee is made up of eight volunteers whose collective work is about raising funds to support the school build project in Kitale, Kenya.

  • Irene Fyfield – is the daughter of the late Barnabas Simiyu.  She is a manager of a Corporate Hotel and manages the operations of the house keeping department.
  • Diana Johnson – has worked in the Education sector for the last 11 years.  She works in a Primary School in Leeds and is part of the leadership team.
  • Audrey Hylton – Audrey has extensive experience in Youth & Community work and the homeless sector. She is passionate about empowering people to find their identity, passion and purpose through coaching and mentoring.
  • Tuiya Tembo – is a lecturer in Law at a University in Leeds. She has a passion for supporting the Education of children in Kenya.
  • Hannah Muhia – has social care experience and works with families to ensure their basic needs are supported and met. She applies this wealth of experience to helping the children in Kenya.

There are also other dedicated members who kindly offer their time, commitment and efforts to help us organise and run events. They too are key enablers in everything we do!

Our Values

Our school culture is built upon late Barnabas’ core moral values of care, aspire, grow and succeed.

We embed these values into everything we do so that these principles become integral to the ethos of the school.

Our Purpose

We believe that ‘EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO AN EDUCATION’, therefore we want to build safe and secure classrooms in a loving environment where the children can be fed, focus on their learning and cultivate great hope for the future.

The heart of our work is about building strong, positive relationships so that in every classroom there is a shared purpose for children to develop and be fit and ready for their aspirational future.

Our Vision

To build a school where the children of Kitale are empowered to achieve a quality education in a safe and welcoming classroom environment.

To offer direction and support to teachers and parents so they are empowered to uplift the learning environment of the school.

Our Kenyan Associate

We are fortunate to have Dorothy Simiyu, someone we can undoubtedly trust and rely upon. Who manages the operations of the school and oversees the school building program. Her work is integral to implementing our vision and achievements to date.

Our vision and purpose to complete the build of the school will ultimately impact the children’s lives and many other generations to come.
